Election Day Saturday, May 4.
The NEISD School Board Election &
County Appraisal Board Election, Saturday, May 4
School Board elections are traditionally nonpartisan. Right wing activists have changed all that. NEISD has good candidates for each seat on the board. The district has an equal number of activists who are determined to reshape the educational system to support their radical views on VOUCHERS, BOOK BANS and an array of GENDER ISSUES.

To learn more about the assault of activist groups on the Texas education system, see The Book-Loving Texan’s Guide to the May 2024 School Board Elections.

The Appraisal Board will have elected members for the first time. Democrats feel that allowing members of boards in cities with populations larger than 75,000 is a scheme by Republicans in the state legislature to insert right-wing influence on local funding, particularly the schools. A right-wing group call True Texas Project has endorsed candidates in this election. See their website for more information about their endorsements and their opposition to "wokeness."

The candidate receiving a plurality of the votes--not a majority--wins the election on Saturday. This makes it likely that a candidate can win by a tiny margin of votes. In a previous school board election, one trustee won by 5 or 6 votes. This means more than ever, every vote counts and you need to vote and bring your friends and neighbors with you.

Who We Are
Founded in 1994, Northeast Bexar County Democrats (NEBCD) is the oldest Democratic club in Bexar County. NEBCD was founded by neighbors who wanted to organize, inform, and educate themselves and their community to encourage civic engagement.

Voting is part of civic engagement, so NEBCD works to Get Out the Vote (GOTV). But voting is the tip of the iceberg. Democracy is fueled by politics, a process that's going on all the time--not just during an election.

That means citizens need to be engaged all the time, observing and responding to how we the people are being represented and governed.

Easier said than done, you say? Yes, hard on your own; much easier with a group that shares your interests and values. Whether you're looking for information, wondering if there's a way you can make a difference, or you're ready to get seriously involved in the democratic process, NEBCD welcomes you.

We're called North East because that's where we started, but our members come from all over Bexar County. Come join us!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead
