NEBCD 2021 Labor Woman of the Year
Marinella Murillo had a distinguished career at the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Marinella brought her work experience with the same vigilance and quest for justice to her various roles with the American Federation of Government Employees. She represented bargaining unit employees at the Local, Regional and National level and participated in national negotiations for the AFGE/HUD Collective Bargaining Agreement. After retiring, Marinella continues to use her labor union expertise to protect union programs and funding. She serves as Secretary on the Executive Board of the San Antonio AFL-CIO Central Labor Council and as a Quad-Chair for the Political Committee. Marinella is on the Texas AFL-CIO Women’s Committee and is a member of the Council of Labor Union Women, the Dolores Huerta Chapter of Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, and the San Antonio Coalition of Black Trade Unions. She is a stalwart of local Democratic politics. Marinella has received numerous academic and civic awards.
